Part 6: Hiei's Boot Camp

"Get up!"
"I said I... can't."
"I said
get up!"
You glared deeply, pushing yourself off the grassy field and flying toward Hiei, who disappeared entirely for the fifteenth time. You growled in frustration but your anger turned into surprise as you were slammed to the ground, Hiei firmly in place on top of you, pinning you down, with no means of escape.

It was about 8:55 in the evening. The sky was still light, just barely, and your training had been in session for about two hours now. It was not going too well. Hiei, as promised was not going easy at all on you and you could already feel bruises appearing all over your body - mainly on your ribs and legs.

"Are you going to get up?" He commanded, as he looked motionlessly into your grey eyes, holding your hands down with such strength that it actual throbbed slightly. You growled at him and, with as much strength as you could, pushed up with your arms arching your back slightly to get extra power and you grinned for the first time that night as you actually threw him off.  You stumbled up.
"Sir, yes sir!" You mocked panting as he threw a stunned faced at you from the floor. He smirked and disappeared, reappearing in front of you, throwing punches, to which you blocked effectively.Don't get cocky on'na... you may just," he tripped you and hovered over you smirking that infuriating smug smirk of his, "have to eat your words."

The sun was no where to be seen and the night had darkened the sky, making the distant light from the houses look like fire flies. He looked to you.
"Do what?"
"
Pissing disappear an' then come at me from bloody no where!" You replied agitated. You heard him grunt but chuckle, too. You glanced back to him to see him staring at the moon, its reflection in his eyes.
"Well," you pressed unsure, "you gonna answer me otoko? (boy)" He looked over you staying silent; before nodding.
"
I'm just better trained than you... but you are doing moderately well - for a bad mouthed onna." He raised an eyebrow at you as you had laughed sharply. He goes back to looking at the moon.
"Yeah well... being bad mouthed can help ya out sometimes and it's better than being Mr. 'sociable' ain't it?" You threw back; lying back in the grass. You heard him 'Hn' again and you frowned. "Hey; can I ask you a serious question?" you were staring at the mass of black above you, the clouds obscuring your view of the stars. Again you heard him 'Hn'. Taking that as a sign to go on you did.
"Are you keeping sumet from me?" It wasn't an accusation - just a simple question that you needed an answer to. You saw him stay completely still, his back facing you. It stiffened silently.
"What do you mean?" He replied guardedly. You straightened up, now very concerned. There was a glimmer of deceit in his voice, like he was hiding something. You turned him to you.
"You tell me," you asked looking him dead in the eye. You watched him stare stonily back.
"Why would I keep something from you? I've only now you four days on'na."

You searched his eyes before narrowing your own. "I don't believe you - what are you keeping from me? I want to know." You had a feeling, you weren't sure of it - but something inside you was telling you he was lying.
Then you feel it. It was the tingling feeling from before - when you were with Yusuke in his room. Your eyebrows creased. What's this tingling... what the fuck?

Hiei's Point of View

You continued to stare at her, reading her mind. Your own was now racing and you were getting concerned.  Tingling? ...that must be her powers and the fact that she does not believe my lie also tells me that she is developing telepathy. It's the first sign that happened to me as I gained my Jagan. I could sense people's deception. You stood suddenly, collected your cloak and turned to her.
"Training's over - lets go home." you commanded; turning your back and walking up the hill to the orange panels of light issued from the houses. You heard her get up and follow you; you continued to read her mind.
He didn't answer my damn question. What's he hiding... every time I see him he acts different to me. Then I had that tingling feeling before in Yusuke's room... and then just now. Shuichi knew my last name before I told him and they all seem edgy around me and Shadow. What in the hell is goin on with them!

Your eyes narrowed. Kurama had made a mistake, too. In fact you were all making small mistakes and making her very cautious. The both of you continued to walk down the main road heading for your houses. All the while you were reading her mind and coming up with only one conclusion to the problem.

You would have to tell her.

"You never answered my question, Hiei." You heard her comment. You were both in front of your houses now. You could hear Yusuke's music blaring from his room, turning to her you stared emotionlessly.
"Because it did not need an answer, I already told you - I'm not hiding anything from you." You quickly left her there, going into your house and closing the door.
"Yusuke, Kurama, idiot." You barked up the stairs. You heard momentary shuffling and the music stopped. The three other detectives leaned over the banister of the top of the stairs. Kurama's face was polite and curious. Kuwabara's tired and as always, in your opinion, disgusting. Yusuke's however was annoyed but inquisitive. You stared at them before speaking in your low tone.
"She knows."

Koenma's Point of View

You were as always, stamping papers for approval in your office. Ogres were rushing around madly and you sighed at all the shouting and discussions going on around you.
"Please... shut up I can't concentrate on what I'm doing!" You exploded in exasperation looking at a pair of startled ogres who had just come past talking about the latest Demon World update. The room was quiet, all eyes on you, you sighed.
"Thank you!" You quickly got back to stamping but the communicator sounded. You closed your eyes in frustration.

"What is it now!" You screamed, slamming your hand down on the desk and activating your com-screen. Yusuke's face appeared and you narrowed your eyes.
"Yusuke I told you not to contact me until next week!" You shouted, your tantrum going into over drive you jumped on your desk brandishing your fist at the screen. Yusuke's face turned hasty.
"Whoa ,whoa, calm down baby breath - we got some bad news."
Instantly you sobered. "B-Bad news?" You mumbled, from past your pacifier. Oh no what has he done now?  You asked yourself. You looked up to see Kurama on screen, with a troubled face.
"Koenma, it appears that Brianey is beginning to suspect us, she was out training with Hiei earlier-"
"What? Training, I never told you to train her! That was a last cause!" You screamed, you were not happy. You had ordered them to keep a low profile and training this girl in anything, were against your rules.
"I made a deal with her Koenma; stop acting like it's a big deal." You glowered at the screen; Hiei's face was dripping with contempt. You sighed.
"What's the problem?" You enquired, sitting down on the edge of the desk. He stared blankly back at you - as normal.
"She suspects us of lying to her. While training the on'na, she asked me if I was keeping things from her - along with the others. I told her we were not but she doesn't not believe me. Also while reading her mind I discovered she has been having weird feelings around myself, and Yusuke." You heard Yusuke cut him off.
"Huh she has? ... but she hasn't even been near me!"

You watched Hiei turn to the lead detective. "When she was helping you unpack she claims in her mind to have felt a tingling sensation, around and inside herself." He turned back to you. "The same thing appears to have happened tonight. I also think she is developing telepathy... which is why she did not believe my lie."
"Well, what if you're a crap liar ever think of that, shorty?" Kazuma's voice rang from behind Hiei's face and you floundered to control the situation as you saw Hiei's expression change to anger.
"Alright! I understand," You quickly jumped in. The fighting stopped, thankfully and the detectives gazed at you waiting. However Hiei added something which caught your attention.
"One more thing. Brianey has a friend - name of Shadow. She also knows about Brianey, about her powers and also the reason behind this. She has agreed to help us. I also found this-" You waited until Hiei revealed a silver necklace, with a pentagram and wolf on the chain. Your eyes widen slightly.
It can't be! That's the necklace for the Heir of the wolf thrown - buts it's joined to the necklace of the darkness thrown?

"Hiei; where did you find that?" Urgency in your voice turned to worry. Those items went missing approximately 20 years prior, along with the Princess and Prince to the Wolf, and The Darkness tribes. Bedlam had been issued by both tribes, a war almost created when both respected species had blamed the other for it. Rekiai had fortunately handled the situation, calming the tribes down, but the artefacts had remained missing. Of course you knew of the illegal passage of the Prince and Princess to Living World, but at the time it was safer to ignore their presence and hope that no ill fortune came of it. The situation had then been misplaced until the recent mission had come along.
"While looking for valuable information in Brianey's house - it was with a letter, addressed to her explaining everything we already knew - and more."
"Go on." You urged now very eager to know what else your team had discovered. Hiei paused for a moment before going on.
"Before in briefing, you said her parents didn't know why her powers had not shown. You were mistaken they knew - they were the ones that hid them."
There was an uproar, from you and also the three remaining detectives, the biggest from Yusuke.

"They what! How the hell could they do that to the girl! You best not be lying Hiei or I'll kick your ass!"
Hiei merely glanced at Yusuke. "I'm not." He turned back to the screen. "There is a demon after her. Her mother and father are the daughter and son, of both the darkness and wolf clan leaders, as you knew. However as they have had a child- she is now the heir to both clans. She's somewhat of a forbidden child."
You regarded Hiei for a second, almost disbelieving, for on his last sentence he had shown slight fondness to the term "forbidden child" much like he liked the idea.  Is... He possibly feeling a bond to Brianey as she is similar to him? Because she was not meant to be - like him? The thought was quickly diminished. Hiei would not think like that, ever.

"I see." You stated slowly, realising the enormity of this mission unfolding. This was a much bigger job than you thought. Firstly for the fact that Brianey and her family's lives were on the line. Secondly because Brianey was in fact - royalty. She is indeed the heir to both tribes - which explains the unity of the necklace. Then this means she has two of Makai's clans at her feet. She can stop the feud between both clans, and also bring down 69% of the killings in the Demon World. And I would have found 20 year old missing artefacts. My dad would be happy - and I'd get treated!! You smiled gleefully for a moment, imagining the prospect of wallowing in an expensive Onsen (hot spring) being pampered by lovely and beautiful maids. You quickly snapped out of it as you heard Yusuke and Kurama calling your name.

"Huh? Oh! Right. I need more time to decide what to do... in the mean time - I want Hiei and Yusuke to keep an extra eye on her. Kurama and Kuwabara I would like you to get more information off her friend. You have your assignments. Don't contact me until you have any information or you run into another problem. Now go." You ordered as the screen returns to black. You physically sighed and slump back in your chair.

"I hate my job." You admitted, sadly.
