Part 7: The Invite

Yusuke's Point of View

The next five weeks went by in a blur. After the meeting and talking with Koenma, about Brianey's suspicions; you had all agreed to be more careful around her and not to let her think anything was wrong. Lessons were becoming more and easier to handle - and you for once, were actually enjoying it - but that was down to a certain girl who just loved to prank teachers whenever possible.

The gang also seemed calmer around the new house, and area. Kayko and Yuki were as happy as ever - much to your disliking. Kurama and Shadow, Brianey's friend seemed to be getting along well - including her visiting him on the weekend to help him with their homework. Even Kuwabara and Eikitchi we're doing okay.

Not goin' so bad now, and Bri seems to be better as well... it sucks we can't tell her and that we have to keep watching her. You frowned, feeling guilty and unhappy as you walked along the street. You were heading to the cinema, as Brianey had invited you all to go. However you were the only one who was going to turn up. You kicked a stone as you turned the corner; sighing slightly as you shoved your hands further into your faded blue jeans. Grumbling incoherently as you saw Brianey up ahead, she frowned.

"Yo, where are the others?" She asked as you shrugged.

"Hiei is in a bad mood - Kuwabara pissed him off. Kurama is out; he went to help one of the girl's at Uni, with her work." You see her give you a goofy grin which you returned. "Kayko, Yuki and Botan went shopping," you finished.

"'Right, fair 'nough. Well do ya wanna go see the movie? Or not...up to you Yus'." She replied looking slightly bored at the cinema complex. You shrugged.

"Cinema's no fun without a big group; wanna go to the Arcade?" You proposed, giving a sideways glance. She nodded to you and you followed her down through town, past old ladies doing their weekly shopping and young mothers who were carting youngsters around the shops.

"So; what have you been up to?" She casually spoke to you, looking ahead so as not to bump into people. You glanced at her awkwardly for a moment, not really sure how to respond. What am I suppose to say to that?... oh not much, just snooping around yours every night making sure you don't find out you're a demon? Yeah... right.  You remarked sarcastically, but replied to her question.

"Not much ...you?" She turned to you and shrugged.

"Same; ain't really been up ta much ya know? Just... crap." She gives you a lopsided smile which you returned before nodding at the building in front of you.

"Yeah... arcade; s'go in." She pushed the door open and you entered with her.

Hiei's Point of View

You kept your connection with Yusuke open; as you stood on the roof of the shopping centre. So far he hasn't messed it up. You commended as you contacted Kurama.

"Have you found anything of value yet, Kurama?"  You spoke to him through telepathy, the Jagan eye on your forehead glowed a faint green under your bandanna. Finally after a few moments he responded.

"No, the house is empty - nothing here. Shadow couldn't find anything else either... Perhaps we should confront her mother and Father? I think we most likely found all there was to when you did your first sweep."

You frowned; keeping your eyes on the arcade building you put your hand into your pocket.

"No... Not yet we don't want to alert them."  You heard him agree before you averted your gaze to the arcade window. Seeing Yusuke and Brianey playing on a game. 'Invaders from hell' you rolled your eyes. She slacks off too much. I will have to double her training, tonight.  You noted, watching them.

Brianey's/ Your Point of View

You grinned as you once again, blasted a mutated alien with large purple tentacles. Yusuke made a frustrated noise and you turned. Seeing him concentrating on the game, your eyes widen as you see him get the high score. Bloody hell... he's got a good shot. You commented mentally as you slapped his back.

"Nice one Yus' you're a natural with guns aren't ya?" You complimented, he gave an awkward nod and fixed his gaze to the floor. You looked around the arcade for a new game, but stopped and close your eyes.

"Whoa." You mumbled staggering as a wave of dizziness washed over you, along with immense tingling from the air around you. You closed your eyes.

"Bri! W-what's up?" Yusuke was holding you by the waist, to stop you falling over, but you gasped as shivers ran up and down your body and the tingling grew worse.

"I feel dizzy... and... tingling." You muttered your eyes were still closed but you felt yourself moving, your butt connected with a hard plastic substance and you realised Yusuke has sat you in a chair.

"What do ya mean? Tingling... and dizzy - do you feel ill?" You heard him ask you felt warmth next to you. He voice was tense.

"I got no clue mate. Just one minute fine; now I feel really damn weird." You replied to him, you heard him mumble and talk again, only not to you.

"Hiei can you come here... gotta problem."  You creased your brows, eyes still closed. "Yus'" You muttered.

"Hiei... what are ya doing here?" You become increasingly more confused. What you just told him to come... didn't you?  You thought to yourself. You heard Hiei grunt.

"What's wrong with you on'na?" The feeling of a hand on your forehead told you he was checking for a temperature.

"Dizzy... and tingling. Hiei, where did you come from I thought ya were pissed off?"

"I decided to come for a walk. I saw you in here, why on'na?" He stated bluntly. You shrugged and finally opened your eyes, the tingling was still there.

"I thought Yusuke rang you or... something?" you replied sheepishly. You noted them giving unreadable glances to each other before Yusuke waved a hand.

"Oh...no, no! I saw him outside thought he could help." He sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than you, you raised an eyebrow. Ok that makes sense but then why did it sound like it was in my head?  You sighed looking down, the dizziness had finally subsided.

"I suppose you should come home... now." You looked at Hiei for a brief second before nodding and, with Yusuke's help you got up and out of the arcade, walking home with the two boys. You however were more absorbed in your pondering. Right: tingling, dizzy never use to happen and I swear I heard Yusuke say that in my head; but he claims to have said it when Hiei was outside - which makes sense... but then why did that look like a lie? Argh I'm confusin' myself!

Shadow, sighed completely at a loss for what to do. She set Brianey's journal back where she had found it, and moving under the bed, began checking there. Shuichi - or as she now knew him, Kurama, was in the other room.

"You found anything?" Shadow called, her voice was muffled by the fact she was under a bed, preventing some of her voice carrying to the other room.

"No. I believe Hiei found the only real information from the house... we will have to tell Koenma. Perhaps he will have more idea's?" footsteps were heard and a lot of shuffling. Shadow appeared from under the bed and looked at the doorway.

"Suppose your right... c'mon lets -" She stopped speaking hearing noises from down stairs, her eyes widened as she pulled an alert and worried Kurama into the room and closed the door. She pressed her ear to the door.

"Don't forget the bread Ryan... oh and..."

"Her parent's are back... we need to get out of here." Shadow was whispering in a hushed voice, looking at her friend as he nodded in agreement. Together they began to look around the room, for an escape route.

"The tree?" They had spoken in unison, both looking at each other they moved soundlessly to the widow sill and got up.

"Hurry, you shall go first." Kurama had opened the window, moving back for Shadow to have room.  Nodding she moved and effortless jumped to the tree, she moved across the branch - like it was not even a problem and turned back to Kurama, seeing him closely behind her. They jumped into the safety of next doors garden and looked at each other.

"That... was too close for comfort, let's go tell Koenma."

Nodding Kurama led her into the house.

Brianey/ Your Point of View

With Yusuke's help you were now walking up the main road to your house. Hiei was walking slightly ahead of the pair of you, and he seemed slightly cross at something. Frowning slightly you looked at Yusuke.

"Hey, I'm okay now... you can... let go." You motioned to his arm around your waist and looked back up to him. He doesn't understand at first but then looked and you laughed as he blushed deep red.

"S-sorry... Bri." You saw him rub the back of his neck in embarrassment and you punched his arm playfully. You hadn't minded at all. Yusuke and the others being your best friends and all, since they got here. However it seemed Yusuke looked very flustered and for the rest of the time to the house, he never once made eye contact with you again. That baffled you.

Why in the hell does he look... wait he don't like me does he? You observed Yusuke as you finally made it to your house. The black Vauxhall Cavalia your dad owned was parked on the drive, and the front door was open. They had obviously just got back from shopping, you saw your mom come out.

"Bri, Yusuke, Hiei nice to see you - where have you been?" She picked up a few bags from the boot of the car, looking at you. Her dark brown hair blew slightly and her cobalt eyes gleamed with the warmth you always saw from her. She always looked radiant and well, in your eyes, like an angel. A thing of beauty. Well compared to your dad that is -who looked like something of darkness. You shrugged.

"Not much mom, just arcade... why?" You replied non-plus. She smiled and shrugged.

"No reason - hey c'mon, help me with these bags." She turned to Yusuke. "Would you and your friends like to join us? We don't really know you. Brianey doesn't tell us much... just that you're nice and her friends."

"Er...well I-"

"Hn, we will come. What time do you wish us to be around?" Yusuke gawped at Hiei, glaring in a weird way but Hiei simply ignored it. You, once again being confused, looked at them before shrugging and going to help your mom carry the shopping in. As you entered the corridor and headed for the kitchen, the echoes of your mother making arrangements for tonight's get together.

Ok... now I know some thing's not right - they've been acting weird ever since I went dizzy. Dumping the bags on the floor you shouted a greeting to your dad, before heading upstairs going into your room. You stopped dead.

"Mom... have you been in my room?" You yelled agitatedly to her from where you were, your eyes were narrowed at the journal - being three feet away from where you had left it and also at the now open window. Hearing the front door closing your mother replied.

"Everyone's been out all day Bri... no one's been in to go in your room... why?"

"No reason... don't matta." You closed your door and shifted your gaze around becoming annoyed and confused however your eyes narrowed more, as you see on the floor a rose petal and a black velvet ribbon, not to far away from the widow itself.

"Shadow... you're in trouble." You muttered darkly.
