Part 17: Bitter Truths

Brianey's Point of View

"W-What?" You asked quietly and disbelievingly.  Hiei remained silent his back facing you as he kept his attention on your 'friend'.

Anka... is Akki? Nah that can't - but wouldn't he have tried to kill me? You become confused in your muddled and illogical thinking.

"I wouldn't lie to you, Brianey that is Akki." Hiei repeated to you, his tone sounded worried. Suddenly realising that you were all alone with only Hiei with you, you turned your attention to your wolf companion.

"Anka ar-"

"So you are Brianey. I must admit, you had me fooled, my dear child. Perhaps I should have thought about situations sooner." Akki replied harshly, he was glowering at you hungrily, and you were becoming more and more confused. What the hell he's... this isn't my friend... You looked at Hiei quietly. Hiei.

"Brianey, you need to go, the others are in the village... Go, now." Hiei's voice penetrated into your clouded and bemused mind.

"What about you?" You asked slightly alarmed. Everything was happening way to fast for you, first Hiei showing up now this? What in the world is happening?

Contemplating the situation you decided to go with your instincts. "I ain't leaving you on your own Hiei."

"I can take care of myself baka, I don't need babysitting-"

"I never said you did but this guy is strong - And I know him, if you are telling me the truth then... you're going to need help."

"And what makes you think that?"

"Will you stop arguing! I'm stopping with you whether you bloody like it or not! Damn it you haven't changed much!"

You saw him give you a fleeting glace, but you pushed him out of the way quickly as Akki had attacked when he did. Getting knocked down yourself you coughed, as you both collided with a sound smack on the floor. Not thinking at all, you swiftly kicked Akki as you're getting up, forcing him to be thrown into a near by tree. Hiei joined you near your side, both of you ready to fight.

"Not bad Brianey, but you need to do better." Akki chuckled darkly as he rose, holding himself up in a dignified stance, you gritted your teeth.

"Why did you lie to me?" You asked, detest dripping from your words at the thought. Beyond angry you keep your eyes locked on him, thoughts rushing in your head. The gang, Yusuke with Kayko, Anka being your enemy; your parent's explanation of the hidden information they kept from you.

Everyone in some way had let you down.

But nothing made you more infuriated than even knowing you considered Akki to be a reliable friend. It made you physically ill.

"Lie? Excuse me, but my dear; you lied to me as well." He replied casually though his voice was like poison, it sent shivers down your spine.

"Hn, she had a reason to lie baka." Your eyes darted to Hiei, who was glaring at Akki, as if he wanted nothing better than to rip his throat out.

Hiei's never lied though. You shook your head.

Focus.

"Indeed I did, but that's not the point, Brianey my dear - I am so sorry but; I'm going to have to kill your friend." He announced calmly. Looking at him like he was insane you shook your head.

"No you don't have to. You have a ch-"

"No I really don't my dear." He lunged for you but Hiei quickly pushed you out the way throwing fire balls at Akki to distract him. You once again hit the muddy floor, looking up quickly to see Hiei in fierce combat, panicking you watched; scared to breathe.

I can't focus... What do I do?! We need help... I have to get help.

Trying to focus you closed your eyes, concentrating extremely hard; hoping your idea was going to work.

"Wolfs call!" you shouted, as your whole body was engulfed in blue and black light.

Kurama's Point of View

"Where is he, he's been gone for twenty minutes now! I swear if that baka fire demon does not come back I'm not going to be a happy person." You chuckled at Shadow slightly as you scanned around, knowing she did not mean anything she had just said.

"Clam down, it will be-" You stopped yourself. What is... that?

"Shadow?" You asked warily, looking you sensed her come to your side, turning you see her looking alert.

"I know I felt it too... it's Brianey." She stated, blinking in surprise; you whipped around to where she had her eyes fixed; a small gasp escaped your lips. There, standing at the edge of the village, just before the woods, a blue-grey, misty wolf was standing. It's black, empty eyes gleaming in the sun.

"What is that-?"

"I don't know but it has Brianey's sent and youki  all over it. C'mon." Shadow shouted as she sprinted off; the strange wolf turned quickly into the trees, it was all you could do you chase after it, and Shadow.

Hiei's Point of View

Fuck why won't she listen! You cursed to yourself in frustration, while blocking a blow to the head from Akki's dōtanuki sward (Japanese battle sword).

"Onna get out of here!" You yelled becoming annoyed; did she want to be hurt? You definitely didn't want her hurt, ever. Whatever this connection I have to her is, it's going to get me fucking killed soon. You admitted as you forced Akki back. Panting you shifted your eyes to her quickly, seeing her glowing with her own youki you become confused. What... why did I not sense that before? You questioned, but stopped, narrowly dodging a lunge from Akki; you regained your focus quickly and continue the battle.

Probably because I was concentrating on not getting killed... You chastised your lack of awareness.

Shadow's Point of View

Running flat out amongst the trees, you kept your eyes locked on the wolf bounding in front of you, all the while trying to collect your thoughts. Kurama was not far behind you as you ran, and you were very worried about this whole situation.

Why does that wolf have Brianey's Youki? Is she in trouble or, near here somewhere? You frowned, and then realisation dawned on you as you started remembering what Brianey had told you months ago.

"-Then I got Wolf's call and dark slash... Shadow shifting and Luna coil - but I need help with those ones."

You jumped up into the tree still following the wolf, which was almost gliding above the dense, damp forest floor. Panting slightly out of breathe you pressed on.

Maybe if it is her... Wolfs call? I don't know she never told me what that one did. You converse silently to yourself.

Brianey's Point of View

Opening your eyes, having changed into demon form you watched the two blurs of colour that were Hiei and Akki. Obviously you knew they were fighting but since they were moving to fast for you to see, you had no idea who was winning.

Not good, where's help when you need it!

Cursing as you dived to the floor; narrowly dodging a ball of black energy. You lift your head back up. Fuck to close for comfort; I know Hiei needs help too. You begin to feel the knot of worry in your stomach slowly tightening uncomfortably.

Hearing a shout of agony, you snapped your attention up quickly, seeing Hiei pinned to a near by tree, Akki's sward in his shoulder. Looking to you he held onto the blade of the sward. Akki however was laughing, insanely.

"My dear boy, are you ok? You seem to have something in your arm." He joked, twisting the blade into Hiei's arm more. Gritting his teeth you watched unsure of what to do.

"Spirit orb this baka."

"Yes, well done. Good of you to notice however you should be more worried about your back." Hiei retorted smirking at Akki, not waiting for a signal, you threw three bluish-black orbs from your hands quickly, hitting Akki dead centre in his back, quickly following through you tackled him to the floor, punching as you fall. Adrenaline began pumping through your veins.

"Just remember our training. Calm yourself down, and go from there Brianey. I have your back."

He has my back. You reassured yourself, before rolling off Akki. Pushing yourself up you regained your balance becoming more aware than before. Clearing your mind of your worries, for now, you focused. Akki had also gotten to his feet and was not looking to happy.

Taking out a Tanto (6 inch dagger) from his boot, he swiped at you and you dodged it nimbly, kicking upwards into his arm. Hearing a dull thud, you shifted your weight quickly side-kicking Akki squarely into a tree.

You landed crouched on the floor, before turning to Hiei; seeing him dislodging himself from the tree before he pulled you through the forest at an alarming rate. Holding on tightly you screamed.

"Hiei what the hell?"

"Shut up baka, I'm taking you home." He replied, you could hear him relaying a message mentally, and before you knew it, you could sense two very familiar youki following you. Home? Wait! Does he mean the apartment!? You began to struggle violently.

"Onna, hold still!" Hiei shouted back, grabbing your wrist tighter.

"I'm not going back to the apartment with you!" You shouted becoming angry, seeing him ignore you, you bit his arm, hard, causing him to look at you in annoyance.

"Hn." He grunted before you felt a sharp, cold rap on your back, everything plunged into blackness.
