Part 18: Welcome Home?

"Is she awake? Oh I hope she's not going to be mad."

"Mad, are you kidding, she's going to go ballistic!"

"Well I'm just glad she's alive, and ok... even if she is mad."

You groaned as you started coming around, confused and slightly disorientated. What the hell are all those voices going on about? You tried to apprehend, but winced in pain. Your body felt like it had been sucked of life, and your head felt like a car had struck it; head on. Shifting your eyes side to side behind your eyelids, you began to become more focused, recollecting what happened, you growled as you shot up.

"Where is he?" You muttered furiously. Botan shrank away from you, the others following. You heed no attention to them; as you swung yourself over the side of the bed, ignoring the dizzy spells.

"Hiei where are you!" You shouted moving quickly, you pushed Kurama away from you, as he had gone to take your arm. Heading out the hospital wing you stormed down the hall way like a wild animal, heading for the portal to get to Hiei's room.

Stupid little... Argh! You slammed his door open seeing him sitting on the window sill you yanked him around to you shouting. "Why did you hit me?!"

"You're up." He replied casually, not even flinching at the murderous glare you were giving him. Pulling him up, you kicked him hard.

"Why did you bring me back? You stupid idiot! I didn't want to come back here! That's why I left I didn't want to come back!" Screaming at him you shoved him hard into his bed room wall, before going to storm out of the room. However a tight grip clamped onto your arm and your back collided with the wall. Hiei was glaring furiously at you.

"Don't," he began in a cold, commanding voice, though it was very low, only just above a whisper. "Ever push me. Do you understand onna? On the training room floor. That is the only place you can push me." You kept your eyes locked with him, snorting slightly in ironic laughter.

"You're not my dad. I can do what I want."

"You will do what you're told to. Staying here where Akki can't find you, was one of the rules you agreed to. Now if you don't like it tough. You're stopping here." Glaring coldly back you pushed him off you, heading for the door but he grabbed you again.

"Do you like hurting people?" You reeled to look at him; set on shouting an insult, but frowned.

"I never hurt an-"

"When you left. We looked everywhere for you. Shadow and Yusuke-" You narrowed your eyes dangerously, but he continued. "As much as Yusuke deserved the pain, Shadow and I, the others did not. We did not deserve it. Now you might think you don't want to be here. But I know it's not true. I spent three months looking for you, we hardly spelt. We hardly ate. So when I bring you back here and you act like a fucking child. It hurts people."

"As if I had a choice-"

"You did. Stop here and sort it out! Strong people don't run away from problems. They tackle them head on." Looking hard into his eyes you go to shove him away from you again, only his grip tightened more around your arm, cutting off the blood flow slightly as you began to feel your fingers tingling.

"Don't you tell me what to fucking do! I'll sort my own damn problems out my way. I was fine until all this shit happened to me. Perfectly normal! Now look at me! I'm arguing in an apartment on the border of another world with a short tempered three-eyed asshole!"

"You're not the only on hard done by you stupid, little, brat!" He spat, struggling to maintain his own temper now. "There are people in the worlds far worse off than you. Your problems are nothing compared to some people! Get over it!" Releasing you he shoved you out of his room hard, making you slide across the hard Bianco Carrara, marble floor. Your head collided with the wall opposite. Your headache flared up into an aching throb. Gritting your teeth you glared up at the black wooden door, tingling flashed through your body as you changed. "I wasn't finished with you Hiei!" You roared throwing a spirit orb at the door you took it out in one blow, however in a flash he had you pinned to the wall looking beyond enraged.

Glaring back defiantly you kept completely still, ignoring the pain in your head. Oh dear I got him pissed. You thought in mocked concern. Growling lowly he tightened his grip. Obviously he read your mind.

"Look at what your doing Onna? Now does this look like you? It doesn't from where I'm standing, you weren't like this before. You were... more understanding." He glared. "I don't like it." Letting go of you he turned to leave.

"Oh! I'm so damn sorry that I changed - couldn't possibly have been anyone's fault I'm behaving this way could it? Just what the fuck am I supposed to do Hiei? Walk around with a grin on my face pretending I'm fucking fine? Huh? What do you fucking want from me?!"

"What do I want?" He shouted ranting, wheeling around to face you glaring slightly. "I want you!"

"-Then he just; took off." You report quietly. Looking up you watched Shadow as she sat quietly on her window sill, wondering if she was going to say anything any time soon. You'd come here straight after your confrontation with Hiei. The scene was still playing in your mind making your thoughts erratic and confusing, almost to the point where you thought you'd imagined the whole scene. Your rage had depleted due to the curiosity and shock your system was in.

The others were of course, keeping a low profile around you; so as not to make you annoyed further; which, you were thankful for.

Shadow was acting as she does when fights happen - indifferent to you, one of the reasons you liked her so much. Currently she was gazing outside at the weak rays of the dying sun, a thoughtful look etched onto her face as her ocean blue eyes scanned the forest beyond.

"Maybe you heard wrong Bri? Are you sure he said he wants you." Sighing in annoyance you looked at the bed.

"Yes. That's exactly what he bloody said, Shad." Turning to you she gave you a pointed look.

"I was only making sure; please don't get so irritable I'm trying to help." She murmured quietly, nodding you sighed again.

"I don't know what he meant. Well, I can only give you guesses at what he meant but without asking him it would be like shooting in the dark. He could mean he likes you, or he wants something that you have... Or-" You stopped listening somewhat, nodding quietly to her as she speaks, trying to think yourself on what he might have meant. Just what did he mean by he wants you?

"Brianey."

"Nnn? Oh - Sorry, Shadow. I-"

"It's ok... Sorry I can't help, but if you want my interpretation of circumstances and from looking at how Hiei reacts around you. I might go with he likes you." You flashed her a dismissive glace, shaking your head.

"I don't think Firefly is one for liking people, Shad." You commented staring at her ceiling. You felt the bed shift, signalling she moved from the sill. Pressure on your arm gently, you looked at her and see her smiling reassuringly, while she gently squeezed your shoulder.

"Ask him then? There's no harm in asking him what he meant. Oh; um Bri I'm really sorry, I said I'd meet Kurama-"

"It's ok. You go it's fine. Can I come talk to you more later?" You sat up; rubbing your hair out of your eyes, seeing her nod as she led you to her door. Turning around you smiled slightly heading down to your own room but stopped.

"Hey Shad?"

"Yes, Bri?"

You hesitated a moment, looking at her before smiling apologetically. "Um. Sorry for... Running away and everything. I know it must have pissed everyone off but I just didn't know what to do. I'd promised I wouldn't get used again, and - well I handled it badly. That's all." You averted your gaze away. You've never done well with admitting you might be wrong. Mainly for the fact that you prided yourself on always being confident you were doing the right thing.

You heard her cough slightly and you shifted your eyes to her.

"I understand why you did it. I'm just glad you're back. Please don't go away again." She pleaded gently. She turned her back, heading for the gardens, you guessed. Sighing you headed to your room, shutting the door.

Hiei's Point of View

Well done baka. You scolded yourself coldly as you watched the sun go down. You had come here after the argument with Brianey, and your mood hadn't changed much in the three hours since. However now you were mostly confused and annoyed at yourself.

Why did I just announce that to her? I can't believe I did that! Try not to let anyone in, I told myself I wouldn't let anyone in I'd only get hurt. I'd only be weak. You fumbled with a broken branch in your hand breaking it into two in front of your eyes. "Looks like I'm weak." You scowled.

"I've been weak since I allowed her to help me. I should have just asked her for death. Why did she bring me back? I was fine to die!" You faltered frowning. You knew why she, Mukuro, had brought you back. It was to teach you to find another reason to live, besides fighting. Besides revenge and pain. You had been contented to just stop with her after the tournament. Unfortunately for you, she left you, again. Since then you hadn't been the same, not as cold. Not as immune to feeling.

Sometime I wish I could just be how I was before. But it's impossible. Feeling is like a drug now. Having blocked it for so long my body is over compensating. Maybe that's why I said that to her? It was an erratic emotion?

Stretching you followed Yukina with your eyes slowly, as she played underneath you with a small, white bunny. Making sure she was well, was always a way to get away from the others, and also helped you feel slightly better for being able to protect her as a brother should - even if she didn't know you were her brother.

You frowned slightly at thinking that; before quickly shaking the thought. Seeing the little Koorime heading back into Genkai's shrine, you followed her all the way with your eyes; and even heard the old psychic croak a greeting to her; before jumping down from the tree. Disappearing in a whirl of black you headed back for the apartment, praying nothing else unusual was going to happen to you.

Brianey's Point of View

You were listening to Limp Bizkit in your room, quietly as you went through the mass of homework Koenma had nicely left on your bed. Though you were annoyed at the tiny ruler for still expecting you to do the homework, nothing else was presenting itself as a excuse to not do it, and so there you were; sprawled on the midnight blue bed sheets, immersed in a Japanese text book. Write an Essay in Japanese about the history of Samurai Warriors. You repeated the question in your mind as you flicked through various pages in your text book, provided by Rody - the Ogre who taught you. Sighing in boredom, your mind helplessly wondered off subject. Your head slowly bobbed down, until it lay on your book, eyes closed you drifted off.

Wielding your katana you ran through the shoji, your feet were making soft, hurried thuds on the wooden floor of the house.

Charging could be heard outside. Panicked you closed the shoji to your bed room and looked around for a place to hide, only to find yourself trapped between two Samurai, one in black, the other, red. Looking at both you go to run but the red one grabbed you, taking his mask of to reveal Akki; his mismatched eyes gleaming at you. Your eyes widened and you felt yourself being pulled away.

"I want you."

"Brianey... Are you ok?" A concerned and slightly jumpy Botan queried, she was holding your shoulder rather tightly. Nodding you pushed her off lightly.

"I'm... fine." You reassured her, though still confused. The last three words were echoing in your head. Sighing you stood up slowly.

"Botan... Have you seen Hiei? I need to talk to him."
