Part 12: Meeting by Twilight
You and Yusuke stopped in his room for the rest of the day; which you were very happy for as you hadn't really had a chance to bond totally with your new boyfriend. Koenma had not allowed you to have much free time what with him sending ogres to teach you and then Hiei's training. You felt almost... disconnected to him, and you were eager to fix that quickly. However as you sat there on his large, firm bed; you couldn't help let your mind wonder to why Hiei was acting strange - particularly about you and Yusuke. It just didn't fit together at all.
Maybe, he's just having a bad day - everyone has 'em. Or maybe something else is up. I mean Hiei isn't one to talk about much. I've learn that from the past six weeks that I have know him; but he does seem to talk more to me... I guess. You sighed as you leave your thoughts there. Telling yourself that it was not the time to worry - this was you and Yusuke's time.
"You alright babe? I haven't actually gotten to have you for myself for ages!" Yusuke murmured as he lay next to you on his bed, he was stroking your hair as you played absentmindedly with his white T-shirt. I know the feeling. You thought as you nodded to him.
"Mmm, I'm ok - just tired. Koenma has me working my ass off-" You began but quickly looked up to him as he snorted. You gave him a confused look to which he smiled at, softly.
"Koenma has you working your ass off? Bullshit, you only have to train and do your lessons. Try doin' lesson, training four times a week and going on missions. Bet ya would be drained after that!" He told you as you chuckled. As you nodded in silent agreement you could hear Kayko shouting in her room. What you hear caused both you and Yusuke to star in shock.
"Botan, I don't care if she's your friend! She doesn't belong with Yusuke! She's too much trouble for him and will distract him from his job!"
"Oh Kayko, please don't say that! Brianey is really nice from what I've seen of her. Besides I thought you didn't like Yusuke."
"Of course I like Yusuke! How can you even say you like Brianey - you've spoken to her once this week by chance! You don't know what she's like - I've been with her for six weeks with the others. Even Hiei doesn't like her!"
"Nonsense, Hiei doesn't admit if he likes anyone - the fact she's a girl makes it even more unlikely he'd ever admit to liking her. Why are you so bothered anyway?"
"I just ...don't want her ruining Yusuke job that's all."
"Would this have anything to do with Yuki dumping you? You did say to me and Shizuru that you we're upset-"
"Being upset about him and what's going on with Yusuke and Brianey are two different things!"
You sighed in frustration and anger and tuned out the rest of the debate the reaper and the college girl were having, deciding you were going to have to talk to Kayko later on; even if she refused to. Fuck sake... never knew she was that annoyed. Wonder if ...what she said was true. I wonder if Hiei actually doesn't like me.
"What was that onna?"
You jumped slightly in surprise from the husky, powerful voice of the person you were least expecting. Yusuke hugged you tighter and spoke your name, but you ignored it from the moment.
"Hiei? Crap you scared me. It feels weird talking like this." You replied as you hitched up a little higher into the bed. You kissed Yusuke sweetly to let him know you're fine and he accepted it before stroking your hair again.
"It is one of your powers. Koenma said being a wolf demon you have the power of telepathy. But what were you referring to ...and hurry up about it I'm trying to meditate."
"Meditate? O-k I can't really see you meditating, dude. Kayko said you didn't like me; and I was-"
"Wondering if that statement was correct? It's not. I neither like you nor dislike you. Does that answer your question onna?" He replied coolly, you creased your eyebrows at that feeling slightly - hurt?
"Yep, cheers, you can go back to meditating now. I'll talk to ya more, later." You send to him before cutting the connection; your head buzzing with questions. So Hiei didn't like or dislike you? Sounds alright?
"Bri, are you alright? Don't pay any attention to what Kayko said." You turned to Yusuke; seeing him looking straight at you made you feel slightly uncomfortable, but you shuck it off. Why does he seem so... aggressive now? You wondered.
"Yus' are ...you mad at me?" You asked hesitantly. "If ya are... just say; I'd rather you be straight than jerk me around." His eyes widened slightly.
"No, course I'm not - why did you think that? I'm mad at that bitch in there." He directed his thumb up the left hand wall, where Kayko bed room was to be found. "She's always so ...controlling. I can't do anything at all ...I can't keep things from her 'cos she thinks I don't care. I can't go out with anyone I like cos she gets her pants in a fucking bunch. I swear to God one of these days I'm just gonna sneak out on her in the corridor and just..." He pointed his finger at the wall, and you realise it was his stance for his 'spirit gun' attack, which he told you about. You chuckled.
"Well... as much as I'd like to see Kayko with fried hair. I think we should just talk to her about it... erm what time is it?" You asked, remembering your training you had to do.
"It's erm...
"Where?" He questioned, letting you slip yourself from under his arms and stand up. You stretched slightly turning to him as you move to the door.
"Hiei, wants me to train." You started, seeing him nod and move to get up; your eyes drooped. "You can't come with me... Hiei told me you can't come today sorry Yus'." He gave you an annoyed, saddened pout, before coming to you and kissing you.
"Fine. I'm going to go get something to eat and I'll be in the living room somewhere." He replied as he disappeared around the door. You sighed too, before heading out the door as well.
*
"About time onna, you're five minutes late." Hiei stated coolly as you came to sit next to him, beside the apartment pond. As the apartment was on the outskirts of town, there was a lot of space, and few civilians - the perfect place for demons in training. You gave him a quick glance before looking at the darkening sky.
There was a slight chill to the air, making it crisper than normal, you smiled. Winter's coming.
"Sorry, I got lost again. Sense of direction sucks." You told him, he quirked an eyebrow at you oddly before nodding. Getting up he turned to you and signalled you follow him. You curiously watched him with your eyes for a moment; before shrugging and do as he asked, both of you heading for the dense canopy of leaves that happened to be Reikai forest.
"Yo. I thought I wasn't allowed in there... remember Koenma said-"
"-That you are to remain on the premises at all times and to only go outside if and when he says you are ready? Don't tell me what I already know. Were not going in there. Just near there and besides I'm far stronger than anything living in that forest - we will not be harmed; if that's what you're thinking?" He cut you off, a smug grin on his face. You rolled your eyes.
"Oh mighty Hiei, I bow down to you, oh strong one- who has a bad habit of being a jackass sometimes." You mocked as you bowed sarcastically to him. You watched him quirk a brow at you, which made you grin. "Well what do you expect? I ain't bloody gonna stand for you thinking you're better than me."
"Well; I happen to be very much better than you. Quit fooling around like the detective." He replied as you returned it with a sceptical look.
"You're not better than me. Neither are you below me - we're equal. So stop acting like a baka and do your job, okoto."
"You really are... strange." It was your turn to raise your eyebrows, watching him looking over you, thoughtfully. His eyes flickered over your face making you crease your brows. Why did he say that? You're not strange.
"Hn... yes, strange. However I've gotten use to that. Shall we start now, onna?"
"Brianey... my names Brianey." You replied in a matter of fact voice. He raised his eye brow before nodding.
"Brianey, would you like to train with me now?" This time you raised an eyebrow.
"I gotta choice now?" You saw the corners of his lips twitch slightly but you shrugged it off. "Train me. What do I have to do, Hiei?"
"Well, I think we've trained you enough with martial arts. You're about... as strong as Kurama is. However we need to get you using your powers now."
"I have been using them... you make me used my demon power when fighting."
"True - let me finish though. As you are correct we make you use your demon power... however you can do a lot more than what you think with it. Let me show you an example."
Hiei's Point of View
The onna better not become scared when I change; otherwise she is weaker than I made her out to be. You gripped as you discarded your cloak, revealing your black sleeveless shirt. Brianey remained looking at you with a peculiar look, trying to figure out what it was you were going to show her. However as you focus your attention onto changing into your demon form you saw her eyes widening.
"What the hell! Green? Why the hell- oh; demon form?" She smirked as she realized and you become slightly more comfortable as she ceased staring at you. It's not that surprising. You commented cynically before addressing her.
"This is my demon form. I can see you like it." you snickered amused as she watched you, and you raised an eyebrow when she looked at you.
"Don't give me that look - you're green and you have eyes! I'm just... Never mind, carry on." She replied to you; nodding curtly you continued.
"Right, watch me... burn that tree." You informed her coolly as you faced the forest, you could see her look puzzled from the corner of your eye; but ignoring it you created a 'small' fireball in the palm of your hand and thrust your hand forward. The ball flew from your hand and hit the tree perfectly, engulfing it into flames. Smoke rose from it and you turned to a now open mouthed, Brianey.
"Holy freaking cow! Ok so, you're saying I can... make trees catch fire?"
"No. You can't; I can. Different demons can do different sorts of attacks. I happen to be a fire demon so I can control that element. I can also do telepathy and call upon darkness flames due to benefits my Jagan gives me."
"Jagan? That means evil eye?" She repeated looking at you. Nodding you removed your bandana, her eyes go wide and she stepped back.
"Why are you scared onna?"
"Cos normal people don't have three eyes..." You snorted.
"I'm not normal am I? I'm a demon. And I have eyes all over me for amplification, or did you forget?" You chided.
"Point taken... but still I'm a demon I don't have three eyes. How did you get it?"
"None of your concern. However shall we carry on? I'm getting bored of talking."
She nodded for you to continue and you moved over to her, seeing her not moving away this time you almost smiled inwardly. Good.
"Now, as I was saying I can control fire and do some physic abilities." You paused for a moment for her to take it in. "You as you know are a darkness and wolf demon. So tell me... what do you suppose you can do?"
"Well...I reckon; darkness attacks?"
"Good, however being part wolf I should also think that you can change into a wolf. Telepathy as I told you is one ability wolf demons can do. As well as higher hearing than others and better at tracking using your sense of smell."
"So basically, I have all the advantages a wolf would have? Including keen eye sight in the dark?" she asked, you nodded.
"Very good. You're catching on. Darkness demons have different abilities - that's where we need to start. So change into demon form onna and we're going to do some trial and improvement."
Brianey's Point of View
Change into -I don't know how to. You frowned, confused as Hiei watched you. You gave him a pleading look and see him roll his eyes.
"Close your eyes."
You do so your eye brows knitted together in silent befuddlement. Nonetheless you listened.
"Now imagine that you have a box in front of you... and that the box holds your demon form within it. Now open the box."
"O-k?" you replied as you imagined the silver box opening. For about three minutes noting happened, nevertheless Hiei never complained. He just kept repeating what to do calmly.
Finally you felt a shiver from head to foot as a small tingling sensation ran down to the tips of your fingers and toes. You opened your eyes.
"Good." He replied. I did it? You questioned as you reach behind you, you felt your tail trailing out behind you and you smiled. I'll have to practice that one so I can do it straight away when I need to. You noted before focusing on Hiei again.
"This may take a while, so don't expect to be done for a few hours." He told you, you sighed. Damn... there goes the idea of going to see Yusuke later.
"Right. Try throwing something at the trees. Focus on your energy... and direct into an attack - I don't care how." He told you as he supervised. You gave him a hesitant nod before turning to the trees. Focus on my energy and direct into an attack. Damn that's going to be hard... no wonder he said it could take a while. You thought as you began your task.
Here goes nothin.
