Part 11: Starting Anew
"Bri..."
"Brianey... Please talk to us."
You still refused to talk to them. And so far you hadn't spoken a word to them at all for seven hours. You had remained staring out the window of the medical room, an apathetic look fixed onto your face. Fuming in silent rage for what they had confessed to you.
How could they? I thought they were my friends - I trusted them! And they've been snooping around in my house and through my things! ...Bastards. You shifted further onto the window sill, as the clouds darkened; casting long and menacing silhouettes into the surrounding forest and castle grounds - all of which you despised. The nurse, what you believe to be a water demon from the fish-like webbing for her ears, was sitting in the adjoining office and you could hear her shuffling through paper and files quite easily now that you had a higher hearing from your wolf form. Your eyes narrowed at that to.
At how your parents had neglected to tell you that you were in fact a wolf, darkness demon; and that you were in grave danger.
Never tell me anything. They say it was for my own protection? How the fuck is keeping me in the dark, hiding my powers and not telling me what I am any fucking help to me what so ever? I mean you might as well just hand me to this - Akki and say 'do what you want she's helpless.' To him... arses... You scolded, before snapping your head to the door; you grunted indifferently as you noticed that Shadow - your once best friend had left, giving up on her attempts to talk to you. You returned your gaze back to the window again. That's it leave me be... don't bother coming back either or I'll find out exactly what this fuckin' form can do. You told yourself mentally; not realizing it actually relayed to her.
Shadow's Point of View
You frowned deeply at the last words Brianey sent you, as you walked for the portal that would take you back to Brianey's house. She has a right to be angry but... that was uncalled for... You slowly turned right down the corridor but halted. You stared back at the sympathetic, worried look of the Kitsune detective as he stood, blocking the way.
"Kurama move... I want to go to my room."
"I just wanted to ask if there was any change? ...And how you're coping too?" He interjected as he motioned down the corridor to where Brianey sat, seething in the medical room. You emitted a dejected sigh.
"She still refuses to talk... and she sent me a telepathic message... I don't know how. I think she's figured out some of her powers - or she's doing it by sheer luck." You replied turning to glance over your shoulder. He coughed to get your attention back.
"I would go with sheer luck - it's too early and she hasn't trained at all so far with her powers... what did she say?" He inquired as he trudged the hall with you, leading you to your room. You averted your gaze to the floor. Why do you care? You thought. "She said 'leave me be... don't bother coming back either or I'll find out exactly what this fuckin' form can do' I don't think she's ever going to fully forgive us for this - it's hard to get her trust back once you break it." You informed trailing off at the end as your stomach churned uneasily. You had forgotten that part; and hearing it out loud, by your own mouth, made you extremely anxious - was she ever going to forgive you for this?
"I see... that could cause a problem. Oh and more news for you - Brianey is to stop here. We have an apartment in
"What! They can't! She won't stop here... not now." You cried; anger seeped into your voice. They're making it ten times worse!
"Calm down, it will be fine. I assure you. Everything will work out alright. Her schooling will continue here, Koenma has already began making preparations for her to do all her work here and her mother and father are explaining that she has gone to Japan a year early for personal reason. Her work will be mailed personally to the University, along with ours. However Hiei and Yusuke are also to train her to use her powers..."
"She's not going to like that." You confessed as he held your shoulder reassuringly. You stared into his emerald orbs and sighed again - finding that it was all too easy to trust and believe everything he said - which caused you to wonder. How is he always able to calm and reassure people in times of need like this?
You went to continue, however, you stopped a moment. "What did you mean 'along with ours'?"
He smiled at you patiently. "Ah, you cut me off before I had chance to finish. Brianey's parents have asked for you to remain here with us. So that Brianey feels less alienated. Your parents have been informed, as they are demons too, they were briefed and contracted to leek no information of this, they've agreed. Your things have already been transferred over to the apartment." He finished. You gawped at him in shock. I'm being passed around like a piece of clothing! You bristled, about to argue but he cut you off this time.
"It's the only way to help her Shadow. You have to trust in Koenma, he is doing this for her sake - we need you to agree or we can't help her."
You deflated, "Alright... I'll trust Koenma." You tell him softly. In all honesty you had no choice. Nodding, he smiled at you calmly before continuing to walk down the corridor with you, into the portal to the apartment. As you reached your room he bowed and took off to what looked like the living room.
Hiei's Point of View
"Koenma you can't be serious - she will not obey. Brianey will simply refuse to do what you ask and so will I for that matter." You retorted to the ruler who was glaring at you in rage. You simply stared back impassively. Yusuke who was next to you looked awkward, but spoke up nonetheless.
"We could... try to talk to her... let me try maybe? She seems to listen to me the most." He was looking seriously at Koenma and you were looking at him. She listens to him most? What nonsense, he's always in the house. I am the one that is usually with the on'na. You frowned, realising the lead detective was referring to what happened earlier. Fire filled your stomach at the reminder. You decided to ignore the remark and directed your attention back to Koenma; who was once again speaking.
"Alright... Yusuke go and talk to her. See if she will communicate in any way, shape or form to you. Hiei, you may leave."
Both you and the detective nodded and turned, leaving the toddler to his work. You both walked silently down the corridor before separating - Him heading for the medical room and you, for you long missed room in the apartment.
Brianey's Point of View
You were still on the sill, your stormy grey eyes looking out into the unknown view of 'Spirit world' as your 'friends' had put it.
"Life's fucked up..." You mumbled.
"Yeah life is fucked up - but shit happens."
Your head snapped around seeing Yusuke standing there. His hands were in his pocket - as always. He was looking at you in a mix of concern and hurt.
"Oh. It's the liar. What do you want?" You replied coldly turning your head back to the window. You were still angry at them all, but Yusuke always seemed to make you feel better when he was there. Him and Hiei both. It infuriated you to know you couldn't stay mad.
"I can see your social skills still suck. Want to talk to me? Or not, I don't care as long as you don't keep doing a Hiei." He replied; you could hear him move a chair and sit down. You turned back to him, an eyebrow quirked.
"Doing a Hiei? What the fuck's that mean?"
"What you're doing now. Sitting on a window sill annoyed at everyone and everything and only replying at an 'hn' if anything - That's called doing a Hiei." He replied studying you from where he sat. You rolled your eyes.
"Shows what you know. Hiei actually speaks more than you think... and what's wrong with sitting on a window sill? I can sit where I want." He smiled slightly and you creased your brows. "Why are you smiling?"
"Because you're actually talking to me... which shows you still care-"
"Pity you don't do the same for me."
"I do care... I was doing-"
"Your 'job' yeah, you said that before. I thought it was your 'job' as my friend to not lie and snoop around behind my back. I thought it was my parents 'job' to be straight with me - tell me the truth and not lie to me. Seems everyone around here's not very good at doing their 'job." You snapped back at him. You kept your eyes on his seeing them welling up in rage, you smirked.
Yeah you deserve that...
"Do I now? I deserve you shouting at me. Your parents deserve a spoilt brat treating them like shit when all they were doing was saving them from a psychopath? Shadow, Hiei, Kurama... your friends really deserve all this, do they Brianey?" You turned from him.
"Answer the fucking question!" He shouted, grabbing your arm tightly, you swung around in alarm. You stopped quiet looking him over. His face was set into a glare, his chestnut eyes swirling with hurt and rage; but there was something else there too. You both remained completely still staring at each other before you both leaned in.
Your heart jolted weirdly as your lips touched and you wrapped your arms around his neck as he leaned you back against the cold window pane; causing a slight gasp to venture from your throat. You felt him smile against your lips as he rubbed your side lightly before you both pulled back from the kiss. His brown eyes meet your stormy grey ones and you both smiled.
"You alright now?" He asked, still holding your waist. His eyes never moved from yours and you nodded, feeling as if in a dream. Had you two just... were you two dating now? He smiled.
"Yeah... erm... are... we kinda..." You started; he shrugged causing you to look at him confused.
"Only if you... wanna." He replied awkwardly looking at you. You nodded.
"Yeah... sure it's alright with me." He grinned wide and you laughed at him. "Common... I better go say sorry to the others for-"
"Being an ass? Yeah, you should." he cut in but quickly shouted at you as you punched his arm. He laughed and took your hand before leading you out the door.
You knew he had just used that as a way to calm you down, but at the same time you didn't care. He did have a point when he explained it, and for some reason - you didn't want to stay mad at them.
*
"God I am so bored! Please... kill me or somethin'." You grumbled.
A week had past since your little transformation and everything seemed to be going pretty good. The others had practically jumped on you when you had apologised and Shadow had even moved to
"I can't kill you... I'm suppose to protect you remember?"
You chuckled as you nodded to the small demon next to you. "Yeah but still... bet you loved to, eh firefly?" You laughed but quickly ducked and ran as Hiei began to chase you. His katana held threateningly in his hand.
"Come back here on'na! Don't call me that name unless you value your life!" He shouted though he was smirking slightly. You quickly turned the corner and grinned as you hid behind Yusuke. He laughed.
"Hey babe, whoa what the hell!" He asked confused as you held him there as a shield. He moved his head to look at you, confused and you grinned up at him.
"Hiei." You explained. He rolled his eyes and picked you up, causing you to scream at him but nevertheless you wrapped your arms around his neck. You saw Hiei appear. He sighed.
"Hn.... Get a room, will you." He commented coldly as he sheathed his sward and walked past your entangled bodies; you chuckled and follow him with your eyes.
"Sorry firefly."
"You will be if you keep calling me that... training at six don't be late or I'll double the amount you have to do... and don't bring the detective this time... I need you to learn this on your own... without his help."
You creased your eyes brows. Why... is he asking me to come alone? We ain't even supposed to train today it's my day off. You thought perplexed however replied before he got out of range - your telepathy was still strengthening, you could only send messages up to a range of a 600 metre radius around you.
"Alright. Six in the training room it is."
"Six outside in the grounds, by the woods. Don't be late on'na."
You felt him cut the connection to you, as you frowned, extremely confused and slightly worried. He doesn't normally ask that of me... he lets me bring Yusuke along if it's him training me. However you were not able to dwell on that thought because Yusuke was shaking you back to reality. You blinked at him before frowning.
"What?" You asked, slightly annoyed for the intrusion. He cocked his head to the side for a moment before shrugging.
"Nothin', you alright?" He asked looking worried. You nodded and follow him to his room ignoring the glare you received from Kayko as she walked the opposite way. What? Just because Yuki dumped her for someone else she has to glare at me? You glared slightly annoyed. I mean - It wasn't like you made Yuki dump her was it? Just because you're going out with Yusuke; it doesn't give her the right to do anything.
Her problem; not mine. You decided, dismissing it as Yusuke closed the door to his room.
