Part 20: Ambush

 

 

Hiei's Point of View

 

You paced impatiently in the small clearing of the forest, waiting for your kitsune friend to come to you. Thoughts were rushing through your once focused mind and images of the incident were provoking you to insanity. Why did you kiss her? Was it really what you wanted, did it mean you like her? You grunted slightly checking your watch.

"That baka is-"

"Here, Hiei." Your head turned, glancing at the fox you go back to pacing slightly your head bowed. You watched him from the corner of your eye, move slowly to a tree stump, sitting neatly down, his fingers laced with his head propped on top of them.

"What is the matter Hiei, you seem... Agitated?" He inquired.

"Hn. I... I wanted advice fox." You mumbled bluntly, there was a tint of a growl there - you hated asking for help. It wasn't normal of you to trust people. Kurama however was your friend. Turning to him you saw his brow perked, intrigued.

"Help on what?"

"..." You tried to find the right term of phrasing. "With the Ookmai."

"Brianey you mean? Why would you want help with-"

"I kissed her!" You exploded slightly more violently than you had intended; you frowned at the speechless fox before embarrassingly turning your gaze, away trying to keep yourself composed.

 

Kurama's Point of View

 

He kissed Brianey? You repeated stunned, though you slightly smiled. You had suspected he might have taken a liking to her, and your suspicions had just been confirmed. Seems I was correct, but he does not seem at all pleased.

"I see, well did you wish to-?"

"Yes. No. Why would I kiss her? She's just a-"

"Friend, and don't deny it. She's more than an assignment now, Hiei." You interrupted the small Koorime in his tracks, he grunted closing his eyes.

"Hn, ok she is... a friend." You chuckle slightly, which provided you with a death glare but you simply ignored it.

"Why are you so frustrated by it? It's normal to kiss someone if you're att-"

"I am not attracted her! I do not know why I kissed her. I must be under something... A potion or-" You continued to keep your face impassive though you're smiling on the inside. Any excuse Hiei. He gave you another contemptuous glare.

"I am not making excuses fox!"

"Fine, I will test your blood to see if you are under some sort of influence if you really want me to?" You sighed, "Just don't be too surprised if it comes back negative." He hardened his glare but nodded.

 

Beep, Beep Bee-

Taking out your communicator, you flicked the screen upright ignoring Hiei as he continued to pace, most likely trying to figure out his problem. You however smiled at the ferry girl on screen,

"Yes Botan, wha-"

"Kurama!" You frowned; the anxious and scared voice filled the once silent surroundings catching both yours and Hiei's attention immediately. "The castle's under attack! Please come h-"

 

The screen fuzzed before fazing out.

"Botan? Botan!" You call, shifting your eyes to Hiei. He nodded in silent understanding before disappearing into a blur of black. Shoving the communicator back into your pocket you headed quickly back towards the apartment.

 

Kazuma's Point of View

 

"Get down!"

You ducked instantly, dodging the large energy ball that had been hurling your way, smashing into the corridor door wall behind you. The wolf demons had not longed infiltrated the castle, but already they were deep inside, finding their way to the apartment portal.

You and Yusuke had managed to get the girls to a safe place, though Shadow had refused to go.

"Thanks Urameshi!" You shouted as you tackled the demon to the floor, you struggled slightly as it tried to fend you off but you quickly slit its throat, leaping off it before the blood stained your white t-shirt. 

Yusuke simple nodded his head at you, he was busy with four A - class wolves, though they were not much of a match for the twenty year-old. After a flurry of punches and some good power-house kicks they fell to the floor, their necks snapped, their bodies limp.

 

"How the fuck did they get in? I thought we had it covered! Koenma better explain!" Shadow shouted. She flipped over her opponents head, landing gracefully behind it and swept its feet from under it. She stood up quickly but quickly dove to the floor, as a katana flew where she had been.

The commotion stopped.

You turned to see the wolf Shadow had been fighting pinned by the throat to the wall, blood oozed from the wound in rivulets.

 

"You should make sure they're dead before you turn your back on them."

"Shorty! There you are!" You moved over to him, Shadow glared slightly but handed Hiei his sward back nonetheless. Kurama was there as well. Botan probably got them here. You realised, half relieved.

"Yes, what happened?" He asked looking around at the various bodies lying on the floor, the alarm was sounding off, defining everyone slightly.

"They just came in from no where! We don't know how they got in but... They're wolves they've gotta be after Bri." Yusuke stated sounding worried.

 

Brianey/ Your Point of View

 

You pressed yourself against the cold, shaded, corridor wall, holding your breathe. The alarms were pounding into your mind making it throb slightly but that was not really a priority right now. You had ran from the other girls; having had five of the intruders burst into where you had all been. Luckily they were only after you and you had been able to kill three of them before they hurt the others. The other two, however, had chased after you.

 

Fuck! You cringed slightly as two shadows appeared not far from the corner you were around. Not good. You wiped the blood off your cheek; one of them had cut you there. I hope the others are ok.

"I can smell the bitch... She's close."

"I know, keep on guard."

 

Looks like I'm gunna have to see what I can actually do.

 

Kurama's Point of View

 

After finding the others, you all began making your way to the girls, but found it particularly hard as more of the wolf demons kept appearing. You and the others were beginning to tire out, though Shadow and Hiei seemed to be fine. Yusuke was doing pretty well as well. Trails of blood followed you through the maze of corridors, and though you knew short cuts, the wolves were everywhere.

You were beginning to fear for the lives of the workers as well as Koenma. If they get any further into the castle. You trailed off quickly dodging narrowly a blow to your head, kneeing the wolf in his gut you rammed his own sward up through his head letting him drop to the floor. You searched around frantically as more wolves spewed out of the adjoining corridors again.

"Shadow!" You cried, alarmed; pushing her to the side. She emitted a small cry of surprise but you had already killed the wolf, she staggered up and smiled at you thankfully before going to aid Kuwabara, who was having problems.

 

Hiei seemed to be doing fine, and was making a very large pile of dead bodies in his wake, an evil glint playing in his eyes. Cocking your head to the side, you shook it off; going to help Yusuke.

 

Brianey/You Point of View

 

You sneaked quietly to the left, sinking into the shadow of the corner you were in. If they come any closer they will smell me... And I've got no where to run! You concluded, alarmed. You were cornered and the only way out was the way the demons were. Demon form time I guess, I don't hide from people. You closed your eyes focusing, a wave of tingling washes through you and a piercing throb from your head and lower back told you your ears and tail were there. Keeping your breathe in, you used your common sense and keep yourself hidden.

 

"We're close... I can almost taste her." You cringed. You definitely were not sure about this at all. You had, had training but you this was real. Just calm down, like Hiei said a panicked fighter is a dead fighter.

"Me too, just keep on g-"

 

He was not able to finish his sentence; you having rugby tackled him to the floor. You used the momentum you had gained to flip off him landing quickly and nimbly on your feet. Dodging a low blow to the stomach from the other wolf. Growling lowly he went for you again, punching out hard at your stomach; quicker than you had realised, it hit you directly and you flew back into the wall, the wind knocked out of you.

Shit.

 

"Well, well... Looks like we found her."

 

You glared up at them, as they stalked nearer, holding your breath again and ignoring the pain you closed your eyes. "Dark void!"

The wolves smirked to themselves. "Aww, look she has tricks." The lower level one sneered. Brianey was meanwhile stalking slowly around them, her stomach throbbing from the pain though she knew it could be far worse. Recovering fairly quickly, she sighed relived calling back her attack and instead, side kicked one of the wolves into the wall, hard. Grunting in pain the other quickly intercepted the girl only to have his head rammed into the wall, dazed he struggled.

"Stop moving!" She rammed his head back into the wall following through with her knee to his back. Brianey continued to pound on the demon but was thrown back into a wall herself by his partner.

Skidding across the hall floor she screamed in pain as her head collided with the corner of a statue, it's sharp edge sinking into her skin. Stars exploded before her eyes.

You sluggishly struggled to your feet, you could feel blood dripping from the gash in your head but you could not give up. You could her them both laughing sardonically, mocking your attempt to hurt them, which made you feel both humiliated and infuriated.

"Looks like she's had enough."

"I would not bet your life on that one." You mumbled backing away; you flexed your hands making two small orbs of blackish-blue light. Hurling them quickly you ran forward.

"Bitch!" You heard the taller scream, he had been thrown back by your spirit orb, clutching his side in pain you grinned before narrowly dodging the others attack.  Fuck... dumbass Bri there are two!  You back flipped dodging his kick; grabbing his leg you hurled him, head long, into the statue finding it ironic that he too cracked his head. Sliding down in a heap he lay, lifeless.

"One down." You panted slightly turning around, however, you prematurely flew backward crashing through one of the doors, and you lay there dazed.

"W... Wha-?"

"You're not good at dodging, are you bitch?" You blinked trying to get a focused view, but groaned in pain, feeling yourself being lifted off the floor and a piercing pain ripped though your stomach. You screamed.

 

Laughter filled the air, you felt him stab the dagger back through and this time you spat up blood.

"That's it bitch... bleed." He went to stab you a third time but you kneed him in the groin. Collapsing to the floor with him you gasped, holding your stomach, your hands becoming red from the liquid. Wow... So... Much? You coughed shaking your head.

 

Grabbing the dagger you turned stabbing the wolf in the throat.

"That's it bitch ...bleed." You taunted. You watched the colour drain from his eyes and face as he fell limp, you coughed stopping still. Need to get to the others. You thought.

Slowly moving you crawled to the wall pushing yourself up with its help you stumble out, the dagger still at hand.

 

I never knew the hall was so... long.

 

"This gets easier and easier." You looked up and cursed.

 

Shadow's Point of View

 

You burst through the door to Koenma's office quickly slamming it shut after everyone is through. Yusuke and Kuwabara collapsed instantly having lost a lot of blood from a surprise attack. Kayko and Yukina quickly rushed over to them, you leaned against the wall.

"I don't think we're in a good position here." You muttered panting, you had a gash on your cheek and a deep wound in your left side but you didn't care.

"I agree, we need reinforcements." Hiei stated looking around his eyes narrowed. "Where is Brianey?"

"S-She ran out... Some of them got in earlier and she distracted them they went after her and we barricaded the door." Botan stuttered while holding an almost hysterical Puu. Yusuke's eyes snapped to the door instantly, along with yours and Hiei's. She's out there on her- You immediately go to open the door but are stopped. Glaring you stared at the fire demon.

"Let me go." You hissed deadly. He simple pulled you away from the door and to Kurama, who held you gently but firmly.

"Don't try it - there are more of them than us. And you are injured. I will go." He replied coldly.  You glare hardened.

"Look I don't care she's out there and I need to-"

"You won't help her if you die before you reach her. I'll go. Stop here and rest." He replied.  You looked around at the others seeing them just as worried as you are.

 

"I'm coming, too." Yusuke called, you could see Kayko glaring in disapproval, though she looked just as worried about Brianey being alone as everyone else did. Glaring at her coldly you shook your head.

"You're more injured than me Yusuke, Hiei, though I don't like it is right he's the only one strong enough and not injured." You sighed looking back to the small, silent friend. "Help her, and I swear to God if you don't you better have your will written." He smirked at you but nodded.

"I'll get to her, don't worry on'na."

"Hurry. I have alerted the assassins. The corridors should be easier to get through now, Hiei." Koenma spoke for the first time; he had been trying to fix the broken communicator. Nodding you opened the door quietly and in a blur Hiei had gone.

 

Brianey/ Your Point of View

 

You moaned in pain as you fell to the floor, skidding across it for the fifth time. Blood flowed from your lips and you sluggishly rose to your feet again. Akki chuckled at you moving swiftly over he yanked you up by your hair causing you to cry out.

"Now, now, don't you know when to stop down?" He quickly threw you into the wall keeping hold of your hair. Your head made a sound thud causing it to throb painfully. You knew, if you got through this, you were not going to be moving for a long while.

"Well... My mom never did teach me manners." You replied cockily, earning you a hard punch to the mouth; you fell back onto the floor again panting, before crying out again as he stamped on your already bleeding and injured stomach.

Coughing, you instinctively held around his ankle trying to push his foot off of you. He grinned.

 

"Not strong enough dear." He replied bored, he held his hand up concentrating his energy into a ball. You gritted your teeth. Oh damn. You swore, closing your eyes.

 

"Fist of mortal flame!"

You felt the weight above you suddenly move, causing your eyes to snap open, you registered a blur of black pass you and then a very large crash from somewhere behind you.

Slowly moving you got on all fours and moved your head up in excruciating pain.

"F-Firefly?"

 

"Don't talk on'na, you're hurt." He replied, he had pinned Akki to the wall though his katana was not at hand, looking around you found it to be stuck in the statue. Akki must have... Blocked it? You coughed dropping to the floor like a stone.

 

Laughter filled the hall, echoing off the once whole walls and clean floor. Loosing focus again you looked to seeing Akki laughing almost as if in triumph.

"What, are you laughing at?" Hiei demanded you coughed again pushing yourself back up slowly, blood dripped from your lips with each movement, you became light headed.

"I'm laughing at you." He taunted before quickly throwing Hiei to the wall. Your eyes widened as he disappeared from view and your eyes darted around widely.

W-Where? ... You tried to move but two clawed hands appeared around your neck. Frozen in fear you stared face forward. He's going to kill me.

 

"Not yet dear... You're not strong enough for what I need you for just yet." He chuckled; stroking your hair cringing slightly you began to tremble.

"You're frightened? What happened to the cocky remarks?" He chuckled again; you saw a mound of rocks near the wall move; praying you tried to contact Hiei.

"Hiei... Hiei please help me?" Akki, mocked. You tried to move but he held you tighter, moving his mouth to your ear.

"Hiei can't help you when he is under my control dear."

"W... What?" You mumbled trying to move again his grip tightened once more.

 

"What do you want from me?" He mocked, before chuckling he replied chillingly. "What do I want? I want you!"  You froze.  Coldness seeped over you. Paralysed you stayed completely still. Hearing a low howl, you felt the grip around your throat relinquish and vaguely registered Hiei running to you before you plunged into darkness.
