Part 14: Play boy?... Dead boy
"Thank you Brianey you and Hiei can go back to the party, now." Koenma smiled as he dismissed you quickly; scribbling down everything you had told him, before closing the file. You stood there in silent agitation before turning on your heel and heading for the door, only to stop.
"Baka baby. Do you not realize how serious this is to her? Her telepathy is allowing her to some how become connected with the person that is trying to kill her and all you have to fucking say is "Oh, ok thank you." I should slit your throat." You turned to Hiei in complete shock but also smiled slightly as he glowered at Koenma, who in turn looked quite scared.
"Hiei I understand your concern but I-"
"Can't do anything right? That's obvious. Just give me the damn file and I'll go get the others. We'll track the baka down." He held his hand out sternly waiting for Koenma to move, however all the prince did in response was fold his arms across his chest. Hiei's eyes narrowed.
"Hiei, you can not go out on this case blindly. Akki is not one to be crossed and I do not want to risk yours or my other detective's lives if I can find another way to help Brianey. SO-" Koenma raised his voice as Hiei had gone to interject. "I suggest you let me gather more information together, in the mean time Brianey, I need you to do as I asked from the start and to not wonder from my boundaries. Ok?"
"Yeah I guess." You replied dejectedly as you went out the office; you heard the door slam behind you, as Hiei also exited. Both of you walked in silence. The only sound that could be heard was the thud of yours and Hiei's shoes.
"Hiei... Thank you." You broke the silence turning to him as you both rounded the corner; passing through the portal back to the apartment. You could hear the music from the party not far away but you ignored it. I don't know why but just when I think he doesn't give a damn... He surprises the hell out of me.
"Then expect the unexpected Brianey. No need to thank me... just go back to that stupid party. The detective is probably wondering where you are." He replied you flinched slightly at the icy tone but nodded and smiled, watching as he headed for his room.
"Firefly!" You exclaimed, stopping him. He turned to you gazing at you in mild annoyance with a slight smile on his lips. Obviously your nickname was growing on him.
"Hn?" He replied, waiting.
"When's your birthday?" You asked. He quirked a brow at you in befuddlement but answered all the same.
"11th November. I'll be 21, why do you ask?"
"No reason... just thought I'd be 'strange'." you grinned heading off in the opposite direction to the party.
Your question did pose as valid for you; you were planning on finding him a gift. You felt indebted to him most of all, as he trained you, helped you and gave you guidance at the difficult time you were going through. More over, he was a very close friend to you.
Hiei's Point of View
Well you seem to do strange very well. You commented casually to yourself before heading the rest of the way to your room. You trapped upstairs and rounded the second corridor; however, you stopped halfway down the hall hearing noise. Instinctively you moved your right hand to the hilt of your katana. Remaining quiet you listened.
"So... are you going to tell her?" you heard a female voice ask, recognising it your eye brow rose slightly in interest.
"Yeah I'll tell her... She's going to be so angry at us though Kayko." The voice of Yusuke responded, slightly slurred but nevertheless coherent. He was only slightly drunk.
Your eyes widened and then darkened considerably as you slipped stealthily down the corridor seeing the two of them leaning on the wall, Yusuke with his hands securely around Kayko's waist. Her hands were wound around his neck. That baka is two timing Brianey. You flared in silent rage. He is cheating on her. How low of him, how utterly disloyal. I thought he was better than this. I'll kill him! You vowed; ignoring the surprise gained from the thought. You snapped out of your daze by Yusuke picking Kayko up; her legs wrapping almost too automatically, around his waist - obviously this was normal gesture, alerting you that this was not a spur of the moment circumstance.
They vanished with a click of a door closing.
Oh no you fucking don't. You snarled vindictively; heading back the way you came.
Shadow's Point of View
You smiled as you nuzzled your head into the crook of Kurama's neck, taking in his sent as you felt him wrap his arms around you.
The party had carried on after Brianey had left, and although you were concerned, you knew best from experience to let her deal with it and be on her own, at least for a while. She'll come and ask if she needs someone to talk to. You reminded yourself. You watched Kazuma and Yukina talking casually on the sofa, and smiled softly to yourself. You finally felt like you were fitting in now, and being with everyone made you feel like a part of something bigger. And I have Kurama now as well. A warm spark shot through you and you smiled giddily. The smile increased when you noticed moment at the door.
"Bri, you're back." You announced cheerfully, slipping from Kurama and going to hug her. She hugged you back quickly looking around.
"Yes I have returned! But my boyfriend seems to have... gone?" she replied confused, you chuckled at her.
"He said something about going to the toilet. The others went as well only Kazuma, Yukina, Kurama and I are left. Hiei still hasn't come from his room... grumpy sod." you mumbled; chastising the small Koroomie.
"Hiei's fine, I just saw him on my way back in." You raised an eyebrow curiously.
"I see... Well anyway, come and have a drink with me. I have something really great to tell you!"
Brianey's Point of View
"Yeah sure sounds good. Ya got any WKD?" You asked heading for the food table, she smiled at you and nodded, handing you a bottle with blue liquid inside, swigging it occasionally you leaned idly on the table. "So whatcha want to tell me?" You spoke conversationally, nodding your head slightly to the music. Kurama smiled at you from across the room before going to sit on the large black leather chair. You noted that his Zorrow costume suited him well and chuckled before turning your attention back to Shadow.
"Well... I and Kurama are-" A crafty grin spread instantly onto your face as you saw her blushing slightly.
"Oh, aye? you and Kurama are-" You dwindled on the line suggestively; causing her look at you, you began to laugh slightly and swigged your drink.
"Dating now." She finished, flushed. She quickly lifted her red wine to her lips taking a long sip. You smirked and nodded.
"Cool, I knew you two might I had a feeling. I'm happy for ya Shadow; I wish you all the best." You congratulated, hugging her as she had smiled, you pat he back lightly before looking over to Kurama. Seeing him looking your way you grinned and winked, he smiled in return, coming over.
"She told you?" He asked wrapping his arm about her waist, you smiled nodding.
"Yes she did. However I take it upon myself to totally kill you if you hurt her ok?" You reply taking a gulp of your drink, Shadow slapped your arm lightly.
"Oi, I don't need you to look out for me." She implored but you grinned.
"Ah, but I never asked if you did, besides best friend here. It's in my right to beat him to a pulp if he hurts you." You chuckled; Kurama tightened his grip on Shadow slightly.
"I won't hurt her, I promise." He informed you, solemnly.
"Brianey," You manoeuvred around Kurama and Shadow, trying to find who had spoken your name. You beamed slightly.
"Bout time you ca- Hey Hiei, let go of me." You pulled your arm out of his grip only to have him grab your wrist and pull you outside into the corridor, heading for what looked like the bedrooms.
"Hiei, what are you doing with Brianey?" You heard behind you, you swivelled your head and see Kurama and Shadow both following, very confused; alarmed at Hiei's behaviour.
"On'na, Kurama go back to the party. I need to show Brianey something." Hiei replied almost aggressively, you frowned at your two confused friends and shrugged slightly.
"Go on I'll be there in a moment." You promised; sounding just as confused as they looked. Nodding Shadow stopped Kurama and they both watch you being hauled off, by a seething Hiei.
"Do you think he's mad at her for something?" Shadow asked Kurama, worriedly.
"No... From the way Hiei was acting... And at a best guess from me. I would say it's something important that has annoyed Hiei. I don't think he's mad at her."
Hiei's Point of View
Now let's see how you get out of this one Yusuke. You seethed, savagely to yourself as you practically propelled Brianey down the corridor, your footsteps echoed off the walls as your pace quickened. You had seen Yusuke and Kayko alone on many occasions but you dismissed it, but now you knew what was going on. I still can't believe how selfish that bastard is... Wait... Why am I thinking like this?
"Hiei, ow crap you're kinda cutting circulation off to my arm mate!" You heard Brianey complain, you grunted but loosened your grip as you get to the door of Kayko's room. Letting go of her arm you fold your arms crossly and jerk your head to the door, signalling Brianey to open it.
"That's Kayko room not-"
"Just open it." You fired back, she shut up instantly and frowned confused, however, her hand moved to the door knob. She looked at you once more for an explanation but sighed as you remain silent.
She opened the door.
